The battle against inertia is a transparent look at the behaviors, thoughts and fixed action patterns that derail us from achieving our desired outcomes in life. The name that I have assigned to these saboteurs is inertia. Inertia takes on many forms. For the runner, it is the invisible force that acts as resistance at the start of the race when the block exit is performed. For the student, inertia may take on the form of procrastination which many consider to be the primary enemy of success. For others inertia raises its ugly head in the form of fear, apprehension, or self-doubt. Inertia may manifest itself in our attitudes, prejudices, and bias. For the dreamer, inertia may take on the form of complacency and the cost of inaction is rewarded by the bitter taste of disappointment. One of inertia’s greatest weapons lives in our internal narrative. It may be the voice of reason that propels us forward or the chorus of despair that leads us to surrender to the pain when victory is right around the corner. In these chapters, you will discover not only what your inertia is, but how to recognize it and conquer it in your own life. My hope is that you will begin to recognize and rectify those behaviors (inertia) that may be robbing you of your joy and success and commit to making a permanent transformation. At the end of each chapter you will find exercises and practical tips that will assist you with defeating inertia!
